Milford Man Drowns After Falling Through Ice on Quakish Lake
A tragic incident occurred on Quakish Lake in Indian Purchase Township, Penobscot County. Walter Demmons, a 62-year-old Milford resident, lost his life after breaking through the ice while preparing for ice fishing. He and a friend were drilling holes to test the ice thickness when disaster struck. Despite their efforts to stay afloat, Demmons submerged beneath the water’s surface. His friend managed to call for help, but it was too late. Game wardens retrieved Demmons’ body using an Ice Rescue Raft. The other man survived but suffered from hypothermia.
